The Shrewsbury-based firm has clinched the contract with Slaters, which has dealerships in Abergele, Colwyn Bay, Mochdre, Caernarfon and Llangefni, after impressing chairman and managing director Colin Knowlson with its product range and customer? support service. Mr Knowlson said he was delighted to be working with another family-owned business?, which shared a strong focus on customer satisfaction.

During a visit to Morris Lubricants’ manufacturing facility and laboratories in Shrewsbury, he saw the contribution that science and technology makes to the development of modern lubricants.

“Having been brought up in the motor industry and having served time in the workshop, I have seen the changing complexity of lubricants,” he said.

“Manufacturers are now working hand in hand with oil designers to reduce engine emissions in new cars, which is absolutely critical. Oil is an integral part of the technology that affects a car’s performance.

“Morris Lubricants is a family business that has the science and technology to back up its customer service and they also own their own fleet of delivery vehicles, which is important to Slaters.”

Slaters holds the franchises for service centres for Nissan, Citroen, Chevrolet, Vauxhall, Saab, Fiat and Ford.

On top of that, the company? has recently taken on two Bosch franchises to specialise in multi-make servicing, which will include Volvo and Volkswagen.

The business has been owned by the Knowlson family since it was taken over by Colin Knowlson’s great grandfather, Harold, in 1923.

Aled Edwards, Morris Lubricants’ northern region sales manager, said: “We are delighted to have secured the contract to supply Slaters with a full range of our automotive oils.

“Both family-owned businesses have a lot in common as we pride ourselves on providing first-class customer service.

“We look forward to working closely with Slaters to add value and help grow their business in the coming years.”

Formed in 1869, Morris Lubricants offers a wide range of lubricants for automotive, agricultural and industrial uses in the UK and exports to 65 countries around the world.

The company is this year sponsoring talented Welsh rally driver Tom Cave in the MSA British Rally Championship.
