Aberdyfi-based rally driver Tom Cave was honoured to be invited to take part in the media and VIP launch of this year's Wales Rally of Great Britain, the UK round of the FIA World Rally Championship and the finale for the 2013 season.

The 21-year-old has competed on his home round of the WRC three times, famously making his debut in 2008 just 20 days after turning 17 and was delighted to help the organisers as they unveiled exciting changes for the 2013 event.

Organisers of the UK round were announcing details of the 2013 event to the press in Llandudno, scene of the start of the rally for the last two years. It was recently announced that the rally would move from its traditional base in Cardiff to a new one in Deeside and with it, would encompass a raft of innovative features.

Tom was asked to attend the event and bring his Morris Lubricants-supported Citroen DS3 R3 rally car, which he is using in the 2013 MSA British Rally Championship. He was joined by fellow Welsh driver Elfyn Evans and Chris Ingram as the route for the rally and ticket strategy were presented.

Tom was interviewed by rallying pundit and competitor Tony Jardine in front of the assembled guests, discussing rallying and how the event, with its mixture of familiar and new stages, would feel from a driver's point of view, as well as how the move from one end of Wales to the other would affect the nature of the event.

His car was then used as a back-drop for the official photographs for the launch, before Tom, trainee manager at the Trefeddian Hotel in Aberdyfi, which is owned by his family, was interviewed by ITV Wales and Heart FM.

Tom said: "It was a privilege to be invited to take part in the launch of this year's Wales Rally of Great Britain. It is an event I love, not only because I am Welsh but also, it has such a rich heritage and it is an honour to be involved.

"There are a huge number of changes for this year, including, of course, the move from Cardiff to Deeside. This means that, according to the presentation, around one third of the UK population is within driving distance of the rally, which is amazing.

"From a driver's point of view, it looks like it will be a fantastic finale to the 2013 season. Three stages in darkness on Thursday night; 24 stages in total in Mid Wales, including some absolute classics and finishing the event with the Great Orme road will be fantastic.
"The organisers are also aiming to help national competitors to do the event with reduced entry fees, so this is great news, as more drivers will be able to compete on what sounds like the start of a new era for Wales Rally GB."

This year's Wales Rally GB is the finale of the season and takes place from November 14-17, its traditional calendar slot.
