WHEEL TO WHEEL ACTION FOR “MAN” IN BLACK AT SNETTERTON

Wheel to wheel and bumper to bumper was the name of the game as the top drivers in truck racing battled for placings and points in the sixth round of the British Truck Racing Championships, held at Snetterton.

“As far as racing goes that is almost as good as it gets,” was how the “Man” in Black, Dave Jenkins summed up his weekend of action.

For the Morris Lubricants sponsored Jenkins Motorsport team it was another consistent run of races and points places.

Driving his distinctive “MAN” in Black, Dave was in the mix in every race and his two second place finishes, two thirds and a fourth were a real demonstration of determination to keep himself in the challenge for the championship.

The top five places are all held by teams driving MAN trucks with the tiniest of margins making a difference to performance and points.

In front of a massive August Bank Holiday crowd the drivers provided exciting entertainment, probably best summed up in race four, which had a four way battle between Rick Collett, Dave Jenkins, Steve Thomas and Mat Summerfield. Into the last corner Collett and Jenkins were running side by side, with Collett just managing to hold off the challenge from the “MAN” in Black to the finish line.

Analysing his weekend Dave said: “There’s little to choose between the top five trucks and the key to success is consistent performance. At one time or another I passed each of the other four drivers. I also led for a time in two of the races and was a grille width from winning in race four. I’ve got to be pleased with that.”

All of the teams now have a break until the penultimate round, which will be held at Pembrey in South Wales on October 19 and 20 followed by Brands Hatch on November 2 and 3.
