WOOD EYES TOP 10 FINISHES AFTER OULTON PROMISE

Rising British Touring Car Championship star Lea Wood is targeting top 10 finishes in forthcoming races after declaring himself happy with his latest outing.

The 29-year-old from Hereford, who is part of the Houseman Racing team and is sponsored by leading British independent oil blender Morris Lubricants, finished 22nd, 17th and 19th in three races at Oulton Park

At the midway point of the third race, Wood was pushing for a top 10 position - and he is hopeful that is where he can continue to challenge in his NGTC Toyota Avensis.

“It was a really good day and I’m happy with the three finishes,” said Wood, who is next in action at Croft in Yorkshire over the weekend of June 28 and 29.

“We didn’t have much luck in the last race. We were up to 11th at one stage. When it was wet it was really good but as soon as it dried up it was too much of a change for the car and we just had to bring it home and unfortunately people passed us in the end.

“We had a big downpour before the race and we couldn’t do everything we wanted to do because we were limited on time. That hurt us in the last part because we were going for a more aggressive style for the last race and then it went and rained.

“But it was three good finishes and to be right on the edge of the top 10 at one point was absolutely brilliant.

“That is where we want to be and hopefully, moving forward over the remainder of the season, it is where we can be challenging. I certainly feel we are capable of challenging there.”

Morris Lubricants marketing manager Craig Bastable praised Wood, last season’s Jack Sears Trophy winner, for his performances.

“It was a good weekend for Lea and it’s just a shame he didn’t have much luck with the weather in the final race or a top 10 finish would have been on the cards,” said Craig.

“We are all right behind Lea and the Houseman Racing team at Morris Lubricants and looking forward to some extremely exciting races during the second half of the season.”

Morris Lubricants are based in Shrewsbury and supply Wood with a high performance range of gear & transmission oils, brake fluids, greases and maintenance sprays to keep the car fully operational in the heat of British Touring Car Championship battle.
